Tales of the Iron Vulture
Canon: Port Calin, sometimes known simply as Calin, is a coastal city in the Scavenger Lands and part of the Confederation of Rivers. It having only joined 300 years ago, after centuries as a tributary and ally to The Realm. It is ruled by a weak shogun and several powerful daimyos from its fourteen noble houses. The patronage system prompts near-constant jockeying for position and influence within the shogun’s court. Members of the various houses, influential merchants, Guildmasters, sorcerers, Dragon-Blooded Outcastes and all others vie for the shogun’s attention. This web of intrigue and underhanded machinations commonly known as the Great Game.
Additional History: There exists with the noble houses the ancestry of Dragon-Blooded from the time under The Realm from ancient history to arranged noble marriages from all over the Scavenger Lands. However, when Port Calin joined the Confederation of Rivers, there was a worry that Dragon-Blooded would influence the houses toward The Realm or even for themselves. The shogun and the houses all have a secret agreement; that publicly no house produces Dragon-Blooded heirs. Should it happen, all records & authentication that the Terrestrial Exalt was part of a house would be destroyed and, if lucky, they could serve the house as an Outcaste (doubly so) or leave Port Calin altogether. Those too high profile or that refuse to be silent, are assassinated.
